The Dayton, Ohio, community is mourning the heartbreaking and unexpected passing of Ryan Matthew Mullen, who died on July 19, 2026, at the age of 20. A gifted aspiring musician, devoted son, cherished brother, and loyal friend, Ryan leaves behind a legacy of compassion, creativity, and love that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Born on January 14, 2006, Ryan graduated from Catholic Central High School as a member of the Class of 2024. Shortly after graduation, he relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, determined to pursue his lifelong dream of building a career in music. In 2024, he proudly released his first EP, a milestone that reflected not only his musical talent but also his determination, dedication, and unwavering belief in following his dreams.
For Ryan, music was far more than a hobby—it was his voice, his passion, and the way he connected with the world. Whether writing songs or sharing his creativity with others, he approached every opportunity with authenticity and heart.
Outside of music, Ryan embraced life with enthusiasm. He enjoyed staying active through fitness, exploring new restaurants, spending quality time with friends and family, and taking peaceful walks in nature. He appreciated life’s simple pleasures and found joy in meaningful moments shared with those he loved.
Those closest to Ryan remember him for his gentle spirit, genuine compassion, and selfless nature. He possessed a remarkable ability to make others feel welcomed, valued, and understood. Whenever someone was struggling, Ryan was quick to offer encouragement, support, or simply a listening ear, never expecting anything in return. His kindness, empathy, and unwavering loyalty made him a treasured friend and a source of comfort to many.
Ryan is lovingly survived by his parents, Matt and Susan Mullen; his sister, Mallory Mullen; his grandfather, Bill “Moo Moo” Groeber; his grandmother, Chris “Ninny” Mullen; his uncles, Pete Mullen and Chris Groeber; his aunts, Jenny Groeber and Amy Groeber; his cousin, Cassandra Mullen; along with many extended family members and close friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Carol “GG” Groeber and Pete “Pop” Mullen.
Although Ryan’s life was tragically brief, the love he shared, the music he created, and the lives he touched will never be forgotten. His memory will live on through his family, friends, and the countless people inspired by his kindness and creativity.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 27, at Conroy Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, at St. Teresa Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Catholic Central for the Ryan Mullen Music Fund, which will provide opportunities for aspiring student musicians and ensure that Ryan’s love for music continues to inspire future generations.
