Sara Gilson Owasso, OK: TikTok Influencer and Husband Shawn Duffey Died in Murder-suicide

OWASSO, Okla. — A late-night shooting in Owasso has claimed the lives of a popular social media influencer and her husband, prompting an ongoing investigation by the Owasso Police Department.

Authorities were called to a residence near the corner of East 123rd Place North and North 130th East Avenue at approximately 11:15 p.m. Thursday after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance from a juvenile associated with the home.

When officers arrived, they discovered an adult woman and an adult man with apparent gunshot wounds inside the residence.

Family members have identified the woman in multiple reports as Sara Duff, a TikTok star and mother who had built a following online through family-oriented content. The man was identified as Shawn Duffey, her husband and a well-known girls’ basketball coach in Oklahoma.

According to investigators, Sara was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering a fatal gunshot wound. Saen Duffey was found with what authorities described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where he later died from his injuries.

The Owasso Police Department has not officially classified the case but said detectives are investigating the deaths as a domestic violence-related shooting. Authorities have emphasised that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Investigators have not released additional details regarding what led to the shooting, and no arrests are expected due to the circumstances of the case.

Sara Duff, also known as Sara Gilson, was remembered by relatives and followers as a devoted mother and wife whose social media presence reached thousands of people. Family members described both Sara and Shawn as popular TikTok creators known collectively online as the “Duffs”.

The deaths have sent shockwaves through both the local community and their online audience, with friends and followers sharing tributes and expressing disbelief over the tragedy.

Shawn Duffey was well known throughout Oklahoma’s youth basketball community.

According to reports, he served as the head coach of the Oklahoma Federal Ballerz 2030 girls basketball program and had also coached at Glenpool High School in the Tulsa area. Originally from Tulsa, Duffey was recognized for mentoring young athletes and was active in competitive girls’ basketball.
