William Provost Obituary – Cause of Death: University of Missouri Mourn Sudden Loss Of Beloved Student and Bishop McNamara Graduate

Family and friends are mourning the heartbreaking loss of William R. Provost, of St. Anne, Illinois, who passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at the age of 21. Remembered for his kind heart, love of family, and appreciation for life’s simple joys, William leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories that will remain with all who knew and loved him.

Born on September 1, 2004, in Kankakee, Illinois, William was the beloved son of Clayton P. and Leanne A. (Grise) Provost. He grew up surrounded by the love and support of his family and developed into a thoughtful and compassionate young man with a bright future ahead of him.

William was a 2022 graduate of Bishop McNamara Catholic School and was entering his senior year at the University of Missouri, where he was working toward completing his degree. His dedication to his education reflected his determination and ambition as he prepared for the next chapter of his life.

Outside of his studies, William found happiness in spending time with the people he loved most. He enjoyed fishing trips, long walks along the beach searching for sand dollars, playing video games, and creating lasting memories with family and friends. One of his greatest companions was his beloved dog, Mags, whose loyal friendship brought him immense joy.

Those who knew William remember him as someone who appreciated life’s quiet moments and treasured the relationships that meant the most to him. His warm personality, caring nature, and genuine love for his family made him a source of comfort and happiness to those around him.

William is survived by his loving parents, Clayton and Leanne Provost of St. Anne; his brother, Wesley Provost of Lafayette, Indiana; his aunts, Gina (Joe) Bergman of Bourbonnais and Sarah (Ryan) Kimberlin of St. Anne; his uncles, Preston Provost of The Villages, Florida, Haven (Anna) Provost of Bourbonnais, and Ramsey Provost of Kankakee; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rich and Tina Grise and Wesley Provost, as well as his aunt, Amy Provost.

Although William’s life was far too short, the love he shared and the memories he created will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His passing leaves an immeasurable void, but his gentle spirit and the joy he brought to others will never be forgotten.

Private family services will be held. Arrangements have been entrusted to Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home in Kankakee.
