Authorities said the crash happened near mile marker 10, about two miles east of the Meadowbrook city limits.
Investigators reported that Tabor was driving a 2007 Toyota Avalon when his vehicle collided with a 2005 Toyota Camry operated by Jonathan T. Machen, 26, of Sylacauga. Following the initial collision, Tabor’s vehicle was struck by a 2006 Ford Econoline van driven by Edgar G. Garcia, 20, of Bessemer.
Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene, but despite their efforts, Troy A. Tabor was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jonathan T. Machen and Edgar G. Garcia sustained injuries and were transported to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital for treatment. A passenger in the Ford van, Mario-Hernandez, 24, of Bessemer, was also injured and taken to UAB Hospital. Authorities have confirmed that troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
