The search for missing Cranebrook, Sydney woman Pamela Gratton has ended in tragedy after her family confirmed that the 81-year-old was found deceased.

In an emotional update shared by Pamela’s family, they announced the heartbreaking news, writing: “Sadly our Mum was found deceased this morning. Thank you to everyone for all the help searching, letter box dropping and door knocking, we appreciate everyone who contributed.” The family also confirmed that the search page created to help locate Pamela would now be closed.

Pamela’s disappearance had sparked a major community effort, with residents, volunteers, and online groups joining together in the search for the elderly woman. Social media played a significant role in spreading awareness, with hundreds of people sharing information and helping distribute flyers throughout the local area.

Pamela was last seen in Firetail Circuit, Cranebrook, on Tuesday. Concerns for her safety grew quickly due to her age and the fact that she was living with Alzheimer’s disease, which increased the risk associated with her disappearance.

She was described as being of Caucasian appearance, approximately 166cm tall, with a slim build and a mole on her right cheek. At the time she went missing, Pamela was wearing glasses, blue jeans, and a dark jacket. Authorities noted that she was known to frequent the Cranebrook and wider Penrith areas.

Police launched extensive efforts to locate Pamela, including the use of geo-targeting alerts sent to residents in areas such as Cranebrook and Jordan Springs. Community members also shared updates through the Facebook page “Help Us Find Pamela Gratton”, which was created to assist with the search.

Before the tragic discovery, Pamela’s daughter had thanked the public for their ongoing support and shared an update asking people to continue looking for her mother.

Authorities had also investigated a possible sighting of Pamela on Eighth Avenue, Llandilo, between 4:30pm and 5:30pm on Tuesday.
